September 23 -30, 2016

Mohsen Gallery is pleased to announce the sixth iteration of the Tehran Digital Art Exhibition (TADAEX). The oldest and largest annual event of its kind in the Middle East region, TADAEX gathers new media artists and enthusiasts from Europe to East Asia in Tehran to enjoy a weeklong slate of exhibitions, workshops, and performances. This year’s program will take place from September 23rd to 30th at Mohsen Gallery’s multilevel space in Tehran’s Zafar neighborhood. An opening reception will be held on Friday, September 23rd, from 4-10 pm.

Since its founding in 2011, a rapidly changing Tehran has served as home to TADAEX. Limited access to hardware and software has rendered the city a dynamic hub for artists and innovators whose ingenuity permits them to surmount such challenges. For a week, local and international artists and viewers come together to explore creative pathways through a digital age in which the future has collapsed into the present. Besides exhibiting visual media art and hosting performance art, TADAEX has offered a platform for sound art projects and experimental music as well as beginner to advanced programming workshops, taught in English, that offer participants the tools to create video and sound installations, virtual realities, and animation, to mention only a few.

The 2016 schedule includes exhibitions, workshops, and performances by Iranian as well as Austrian, Brazilian, German, Japanese, and Polish artists. Among the highlights is a new commission by Amir J-Tehrani, Mehrdad Khoddami, and Ali Honarvar, the recipients of this year’s TADAGRANT, a five thousand dollar grant awarded annually to support the realization of an original artwork in new media. Unseen will consist of 30 television screens with access to the Iranian province’s state TV channels and a recording of the viewer in real time. Viewers can then manipulate the channel settings via a central panel, thus regaining control of the media they consume.

TADAEX 2016 will be realized in partnership with Digikala, Iran’s leading ecommerce startup, and Xvision, a leading Iran electronics brand.
