باقیمانده­‌ها، تکه­‌های جان به در برده از فاجعه‌­اند. نشانه­‌هایی خام، پراکنده و نامنسجم از همه‌­ی چیزهایی که دیگر وجود ندارند. نشانه­‌هایی که دیگر نشانی از خود هم ندارند. هم­چون کلمه­‌هایی از هم گسیخته که از معنا تهی گشته‌­اند و روایتی را بازگو نمی‌­کنند. ویرانه­‌ها، تجربه­‌ی فروکاسته­‌شده­‌ی انسان­‌اند. این تکه‌­پاره‌­ها اشیایی هستند که به­‌واسطه‌­ی تکرار زیبا شده­‌اند و با گذر زمان سندی برای بخشی تحریف­‌شده از تاریخ خواهند بود. شاهد واقعی، آن قطعه‌­ای است که گویی هرگز وجود نداشته است. آن کس که نیست، واقعیتی که هیچ­‌گاه تصویر نشد و حقیقتی که هرگز بیان نخواهد شد.
