Militarism is a sociopolitical malady, in which the military and armed forces step beyond the limits of law and jurisdiction. In a militarist state, the influence of the military on society is in direct relationship with the type of the political regime. The experiences of the post–Cold War as well as the contemporary era, such as the post-9/11 events, show the impact of the confrontations between “militaries” and “political systems” on various events of the last century. The wars in Korea, Vietnam, and Afghanistan, among many others, bear witness to the relation between “political systems,” “militaries,” and “beneficiary groups.”
