Greenhouse No. 2; A False Memory

Maryam Mohry

From my childhood, I remember two very strange mountains, on which rare black flowers grew. I used to pick those flowers, take them home; and plant them in our little garden. My goal was to cultivate them, but they would always wither. After a while, I realized that they were wild plants that could only grow in their natural environment. Later, I never saw those mountains nor those flowers again. Maybe I caused the extinction of the plant species myself.

Many times, as I tried to remember the true image of the flowers, my mind would obsessively imagine them in thousands of different forms. Those images were sometimes more like animals than plants. Now, as we face the onslaught of images, I hesitate and wonder what those flowers really looked like. Did they even exist at all? Do those two mountains exist somewhere next to each other?
