Bahman Wall

Mahmoud Bakhshi

Bahman cigarette is a consumer product and the preferred brand of Iran’s intellectual circles. “Bahman” is the eleventh month in the solar calendar as well as the name of an iconic movie theater, the Bahman Cinema (former Capri), located around the corner from Revolution Square in Tehran, near the University of Tehran. Its owner was a filmmaker, known for several famous movies of the pre-revolutionary Iranian cinema, such as “The Deer” and “King of Hearts.” Made of galvanized iron, the four-meter-tall structure of the “Bahman Wall” is installed on the façade of the exhibition building. Based on the metal structures of the artist’s previous works with Bahman cigarettes, the present form of the work is built through a long and laborious process, the result of which is obviously coarse or crude.
