Gohar Dashti (b. 1980, Ahvaz, Iran) has received her MFA in Photography from Fine Art University of Tehran. She has spent twelve years making large-scale works that concern with social issues, with particular references to history and culture through a convergence of interest in anthropology and sociology. In creating her works, Dashti’s starting point is always her immediate surroundings and her memory, trying to trace her relationship to society and the world in a very sensitive way. Her practice grows seamlessly from real life situations, as well as the connection between the personal and the universal, the political and the fantasized. Dashti has held numerous shows around the world and her works have been showcased in many museums, festivals, and biennales.
