Gohar Dashti (b. 1980, Ahvaz, Iran) received her MA in Photography from Tehran University of Art. She has spent twelve years making large-scale works that concern with social issues, with particular references to history and culture through a convergence of interest in anthropology and sociology. In creating her works, Dashti’s starting point is always her immediate surroundings and her memory, trying to trace her relation to society and the world in a very sensitive way. Her practice grows seamlessly from real life situations, as well as the connection between the personal and the universal, the political and the fantasized. Dashti has held numerous exhibitions around the world. Her works has been exhibited in multiple museums, festivals, and biennales.
