“It would not be too much to say that myth is the secret opening through which the inexhaustible energies of the cosmos pour into human cultural manifestations.” ~ Joseph Campbell

Fereydoun Ave’s installation in Pasio is simple but unpretentiously powerful. By making use of light and darkness, shadows of seven superheroes appear randomly on the walls that are as deep and dark as the real universe. A sparkle of light to the depths of the unknown, accidentally created cosmos, a small model of how the artist interprets the function of celebrated tales in the modern world.

Myths and tales are just as much a part of modern life as they ever were, informing and instructing their followers on how to live through the stories they tell. They provide an understanding of the world for people with stories that are based on tradition, but are more than mere stories; they serve a more profound purpose in ancient and modern cultures. Sacred tales that explain the world and man’s experience, answer timeless questions and serve as a compass to each generation. The subjects of myths reflect the universal concerns of mankind throughout history: birth, death, the afterlife, the origin of man and the world, good and evil, and the nature of man himself. A myth taps into a universal cultural narrative, the collective wisdom of man.
